Description

Explore, Experience, Discover. The goal of our Farm Camp is to provide a meaningful experience for your child by providing opportunities for daily connection to food, animals and the natural world.

Regardless of theme, campers will be immersed in farm life and everything that Superior Farms has to offer during the week. Campers will be involved in daily farm chores, including feeding and cleaning the animals, collecting eggs, planting seeds, weeding and harvesting. The fun doesn’t end there: with four different themes to discover, activities will engage the mind and senses, inviting campers to develop a new relationship with the farm animals, their food and the natural world.

Using child-led, place-based, and play-based learning principles, we aim to make the day camp a place for laughter, connection, friendships, engaging activities, learning, fun and growth. With tons of outdoor space, a sports court, greenhouses galore, and many furry and feathered friends to meet, we have plenty of space and modes of practice to engage and support our campers.

Each week, we welcome children aged 6*-12 to the farm to get to know our animals, plant and harvest in our garden, and explore the natural spaces around the farm. Regardless of theme, campers will spend  time with the animals on a daily basis and will be taught about and asked to participate in their care.

There are 4 different themes to choose from throughout the summer, each with a different week-long project for full day campers, so that the focus of the camp changes weekly with crafts, activities, and tasks tailored to the different age groups. Campers will be grouped each week based on age, with the older aged group aiming to incorporate a dash of leadership and team building experiences. Week-long projects have been updated from 2021 so returning participants can expect to create something new!

Future Farmer (Weeks of July 4 & August 1)

This is the real farming deal! Using an immersive and dynamic approach to food, farming and fun, this session allows campers to explore what it means to be a farmer in a safe and inclusive way. Campers will keep busy in four focus areas: planting, harvesting, animal care, and creative art, and can expect to get dirt under their fingernails! From learning about garden planning, to seeding and sowing veggies, to harvesting and tasting freshly harvested produce, campers will be deeply rooted in this unique journey. Aside from their farm tasks and activities, campers will work on a special week-long project to bring a unique creation home at the end of the week.

Farm Science (Weeks of July 11 & August 8)

Farming isn’t just about our adorable animals! Weather, soil, growing, and nutritional considerations are some of many things that go into the work that we do! This session introduces campers into some of the science that goes into farming and the fun science you can do with items from around the farm (like making an eggshell disappear and observing the contents or making butter). Campers will put on their scientist hats while participating in a variety of fun science-based activities, rooted in the farm and natural spaces, so that they have fun while getting hands-on with everything sciencey that the farm has to offer in a safe and inclusive way.

Nature Adventures (Weeks of July 18 & August 15)

This week is all about the farm and nature with activities and crafts in the natural spaces that surround the farm. Campers will use all of their senses to build a relationship with the natura spaces around the farm and will immerse themselves in their environment and the farm through art, activities, exploration, and play. In addition to daily farm activities, campers will walk in the woods, create with natural found materials, practice environmental sustainability, and let nature influence and animate their art. From outdoor art, plant identification, nature skills, and other hand-on activities, campers will be sure to create lasting memories!

Small Wonders (Weeks of July 25 & August 22)

Get up close and personal with the tiniest critters around the farm. Campers learn about all of the fascinating creatures that play a role in our farm ecosystem: pests, pollinators, worms, fungi, and more! Campers will explore soil ecosystems, catch bugs, build a worm compost, feed the worms and look under logs, among other activities. Campers will search for different types of insects and other small creatures, and discover their behaviours, senses and adaptations, including how to communicate like bees. All of this in addition to time spent with the farm animals and in the garden will make for a buzzing good time!
